The MRCGP SCA Consultation Skills Course — Royal Society of Medicine
Saturday 12 September 2026. Our Clinical Consultation Day has evolved into an advanced clinical communication course mapped to the MRCGP SCA — observed 12-minute simulated consultations with individualised expert feedback, convened by Prof Rajesh Varma. Experienced clinical faculty act as both simulated patient and examiner; multiple cases, no duplication. 20 delegate places. Primarily for MRCGP trainees at any stage of training — and equally relevant to doctors preparing for MRCP(UK) PACES, MRCS and other postgraduate clinical examinations, and to senior medical students (UK and international) developing advanced consultation skills that exceed the benchmarked GMC MLA CPSA and PLAB 2 OSCE standards.
No fee. No deposit. Nothing to pay at any stage.
The UK Medical Licensing Assessment, in one view
Every doctor joining the UK register passes a common standard — delivered through two routes.
| Component | UK medical students | International graduates (IMG route) |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge | MLA Applied Knowledge Test (AKT), delivered through your medical school | PLAB 1 — set to the MLA content map |
| Clinical & professional skills | CPSA, delivered through your medical school | PLAB 2 — an OSCE of 16 stations (8 minutes each) at the GMC assessment centre, Manchester; set to the new GMC MLA CPSA syllabus from September 2026 |
| Marked across | Data gathering, technical & assessment skills · clinical management · interpersonal skills | |
Stated plainly: MD Acumen does not formally offer PLAB 1 or PLAB 2 OSCE training courses. Our MRCGP SCA Consultation Skills Course builds core knowledge, UK referral pathways and person-centred consulting — which provides significant support for candidates who go on to sit these professional licensing examinations. Always use the GMC's own resources as your primary reference.

Register interest →UK assessments reward the consultation, not just the knowledge
UK clinical assessment is built on the premise that safe doctors consult well: they gather data systematically, manage within UK pathways, and communicate in a structured, patient-centred way. That is why our teaching anchors to the Calgary–Cambridge model — the consultation architecture UK examiners and trainers expect — and why feedback on your own performance beats another lecture about someone else's.
